But he could not quite put his finger on it as to why? Then he remembered, it was when Holmes said she'd eaten the dead. He was an honest man and didn't want his love and attraction for her to wane so he just came right out with it and asked her. Marie my dear May I ask you a very personal question? Of course John what is it? She thought that maybe he would propose. Have you eaten the dead at all? He said it so fast for fear he'd never be able to say those words. She giggled showing small ivory teeth. Whatever makes you ask such a thing? Of course not . She replied still smiling. Oh do forgive me my dear silly me just something Holmes said. For a tiny moment a crease of anger crossed her brow. He watched her closely. Once back in Baker street they alighted to their separate apartments waving to each other and Marie blowing kisses. Sherlock watched them with a sigh of boredom from his room.

His hat and the contents of his pockets were cast down into the deep river. Now don't struggle or I may have to drop you. Who sent you? He asked politely. He let go of one ankle. I won't ask again Sir my grip is weakening. I shall never tell my life and mortal soul depend on my silence have mercy Sir. Sherlock contemplated for a moment then let him go. There was no splash the wind was all he could hear. Why did you let him go mister Holmes? asked the boy. He would have caused more trouble. Said Holmes Now I have work to do.

He thought inwardly. These were merely a decoy. His secret vault held the originals. Well come on speak up boys. He raised his voice impatiently. It was just a bloke in the street Sir. He didn't give his name just said that you was away and to take all your paperwork. Said he'd give us some money later when... the boy faltered he'd let slip there was no way out of it now. When what? Asked Holmes raising a brow. When we meet him Sir. The boy sighed. At Blackfriars. Please don't tell him I told you he was a scary man. Threatened us both didn't he Harry? The other youth nodded his long pale face woeful so much so that Holmes felt pity. Drink your tea and have no fear young man from now on you may work for me. Thats if you want to? You shall be my eyes and ears on the streets. The boy's both looked surprised and uplifted. Thank you Sir I'd be most grateful so would Harry. Wouldn't you Harry. Harry nodded grinning. Said he'd find us. Good said Holmes then we must not disappoint Him you shall go along as planned with these dummy papers. Don't be afraid I will be close by. Holmes felt triumphant in the fact he'd narrowed down the suspects for somewhere in his collection of fingerprints was the perpetrators of these terrible murders.
